On June 3, in Kinshasa, the Minister of Infrastructure and Public Works of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, John Banza, attended the signing ceremony for the three lots of the RN2 Phase II project on the Mbanga–Lualaba River section. The Groupement China Jiangxi International Economic and Technical Cooperation Co., Ltd. et Guizhou Highway Engineering Group Co., Ltd. signed the construction contract for Lot 1 with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Works of the DRC on site.

During the ceremony, Minister Banza highly commended the successful conclusion of the project agreements: “We appreciate the progress achieved in this project. The RN2 project is a positive practice of our country’s new concept in infrastructure development. By integrating underground pipeline networks at the road planning and design stage, we achieve integrated construction of roads, bridges and utility corridors, which is a milestone in the road construction sector of the DRC.” He stressed that upon completion, the project will become the DRC’s first standardized modern expressway with two-way four lanes, connecting Mbuji-Mayi in the central Kasaï Oriental province with Bukavu, a major town in the east, thereby unlocking regional traffic bottlenecks.

This project is a key infrastructure initiative under the DRC’s connectivity program. Once completed, it will revitalize mineral, agricultural and commercial logistics resources along the route, boost local employment and improve people’s livelihoods, helping accelerate the country’s regional economic development.
