The Governor of Lomami Province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iron-Van Kalombo Musoko, recently visited the construction site of Lot 2 of the National Road No. 2 (RN2) project, undertaken by China Jiangxi Corporation for International Economic and Technical Cooperation (CJIC). During the site visit, he reviewed construction progress and paid particular attention to the project's contribution to local employment, skills development and improved livelihoods.

During the inspection, Governor Musoko met with project managers and technical staff to discuss construction progress, work quality, occupational safety, environmental protection and the recruitment of local workers. He acknowledged the progress made and the organization of on-site operations, particularly the achievements in creating local jobs and providing vocational training. He expressed hope that the project team would continue to advance construction steadily, contributing to improved transport infrastructure in Lomami Province, better living conditions for residents and local development.

For communities along the route, road construction is closely linked to everyday travel and convenience. As the project progresses, transport conditions on the sections concerned are expected to improve gradually, making it easier for residents to travel and for agricultural produce and other goods to be transported. The project is also expected to improve access to markets and public services for communities along the corridor.

The project's employment and skills-development benefits are already becoming evident locally. Since construction began, the project team has pursued a localized approach to operations, providing more than 500 jobs for local workers, training a group of local equipment operators and regularly delivering specialized training in areas including engineering surveying and materials testing. These measures give local residents opportunities to participate in construction and earn an income while building a pool of local technical expertise for infrastructure development in Lomami Province.

Looking ahead, the project team will continue to fulfill its contractual obligations, plan and organize construction systematically, and optimize resource allocation while maintaining a coordinated focus on construction quality, occupational safety and environmental protection. It will also continue to prioritize local recruitment and skills training so that the road project's benefits can better serve communities along the route and create conditions for improved regional connectivity, the movement of people and goods, and local economic and social development.
